Computer & Technical Studies

This faculty provides training for students in Information Technology, Architecture and Engineering. The Department aims to provide learning opportunities that will prepare graduates for further education and the workforce..

Associate Degree in Management Information Systems or other relevant Associate Degrees issued by the CCCJ. Consideration will be given to candidates with Associate degrees from other accredited institutions subject to the evaluation of the CCCJ. Mature status as determined by the CCCJ.

1st & 2nd year of 4-Yr CCCJ Degree Programme

Programme Outcomes: The development, systems design, and programming skills garnered will enable     graduates to function effectively in a variety of entry-level positions;  or to matriculate into the bachelor’s    degree programme.

Entry Requirements: 5 CSEC/CXC subjects, Gen. I, II, III  or GCE  O’ Level A, B, or C, including  English      Language, and Mathematics. Applicants with a lower than a Grade 1 or A in English Language will be required to sit the English Language Proficiency Test (ELPT).

Courses include: Introduction to Programming, Computer Programming I (C#OOP&DB), Introduction to Management, Business Law, Introduction to Management, Information Systems, Introduction to Psychology I,

Networking and Communication Technology, Introduction to Computer Security, Web Development I—(HTML, JAVA Script & CSS3), Web Development II— ASP.Net, Introduction to Mobile App Development  using HTML/JS/CSS3, Business Systems: Analysis, Design and Development, Communication I & II,          Fundamentals of Accounting,  Discrete Mathematics and Algebra,  Probability & Statistics, Database           Management, Oral Communication, Small Business Management, Fundamentals of Information Technology and Elective.

2-yr CCCJ Programme

Programme Outcomes: Graduates will be equipped to develop, use and/ or manage computer application

software, information systems, internet systems, computer networks, and assemble computer hardware.  They will be prepared for entry level positions in the Information Technology sector.

Entry Requirements:

 

5 CXC General Proficiency Level subjects with grades I, II, or III, in Mathematics, English Language, Physics or Engineering Science, and two other technical and or science related subject . Grade III pass must be after September 1998. No more than two (2) subjects at CXC grade three (3) or GCE grade C will be accepted for matriculation into the programme. Achievement of a 2.4GPA in the Pre-Engineering Course (PEC). Mature Entry as stipulated by CCCJ.
